DR. TILLER'S KILLER: A LONE WOLF?

One year after the vicious murder of abortion provider Dr. George Tiller, Ms. magazine releases a groundbreaking investigation. Reporter Amanda Robb exposes the connections between Tiller's convicted murderer, Scott Roeder, and anti-abortion extremists who promote violence. Roeder is serving a life term; but did he really act alone?

Robb’s investigation questions the “lone wolf” characterization of Roeder, detailing his long and widespread connections to some of the leading figures in the Army of God, a clandestine organization that has claimed responsibility for clinic bombings and murders and attempted murders of abortion providers. The Ms. investigation also documents Roeder’s connections to a number of the signers of the Justifiable Homicide statements endorsing the murder of doctors, and reveals that he began his involvement with Operation Rescue much earlier than previously reported.

For Robb, the reporting is personal. She is the niece of Dr. Barnett Slepian, the upstate New York abortion provider murdered in a 1998 sniper attack. The nine month investigation included more than a dozen interviews of Roeder, as well as many of the extremists connected to him. The Feminist Majority Foundation’s National Clinic Access Project provided investigative support and research for the article. Research support was also provided by the Investigative Fund of the Nation Institute.

The article in available in full at www.Msmagazine.com.

Interviews are available with Amanda Robb, investigative reporter for Ms. magazine, and Katherine Spillar, executive vice president of Feminist Majority Foundation. Spillar is an expert in anti-abortion terrorism and leads the Feminist Majority Foundation’s efforts to stop violence against abortion providers and bring anti-abortion extremists to justice.
