Update: Number of Companies Pulling Ads from Limbaugh Show up to 50
The number of advertisers dropping the Rush Limbaugh show continues to grow, with 50 total refusing to advertise on the show. Most recently, the American Heart Association, Aetna, Home Depot, PB Heat, LLC/Peerless Boilers, and Long Beach Aquarium pulled their ads after Limbaugh repeatedly attacked Sandra Fluke, the Georgetown Law School student who was not allowed to testify at a House Committee hearing on the religious exemption on contraception. Moreover, Media Matters reports that there was about 5:33 minutes of dead air time as a result of the mounting number of pulled ads.
The Feminist Majority Foundation, the National Organization for Women (NOW), and a whole host of women's groups together with Think Progress and Media Matters have rallied in support of Sandra Fluke. Tens of thousands of supporters of women's healthcare have bombarded advertisers with emails and phone calls, urging the cancellation of ads. The internet is on fire with thousands of supporters tweeting, blogging, and Facebooking in support of campaigns to #FlushRushNow. 7/29/2014 Extensive Female Genital Mutilation Study To Be Conducted in the US - The Obama administration plans to conduct a large study on female genital mutilation (FGM) to try to assess how many girls and women in the US are at risk, and how many have already experienced, FGM.
According to experts, FGM tends to take place during summer break when parents take their daughter outside of the country for the practice.
Jaha Dukureh, a 24-year-old woman who grew up in Gambia, experienced FGM there, and then child marriage in the US, started a petition that gained more than 220,000 supporters. . . .
