Taliban Officials Deny Kidnapping of Iranian Diplomats
Iranian officials announced that they believe the fundamentalist Taliban regime was involved in the kidnapping of 11 Iranian diplomats in Northern Afghanistan The abductions followed the Taliban's capture of the city of Mazar - I - Sharif from Iranian-backed opposition forces.
Iranian Foreign Minister, Kamal Kharazi, said of the diplomats that "there is no question they are in the hands of the Taliban." Furthermore, Kharazi said that Pakistan and Taliban officials "bear responsibility for the lives and safety of the staff at Iran's consulate" in Mazar-I-Sharif.
