FMF's Campaign to Stop Gender Apartheid in Afghanistan Spurs Rescue Mission
After surviving harrowing experiences under the brutally repressive Taliban regime in Afghanistan, 17 Afghan refugees have escaped their country and reached the United States. Eleanor Smeal, President of the Feminist Majority Foundation, will join Zieba Shorish-Shamley, Miriam (Giti) Schams, Nazira Karimi and others in a news conference on Thursday, September 9 at noon to give firsthand accounts from the newly arrived refugees of the plight of women and girls under the Taliban regime. This conference marks the first time the refugees have given their personal accounts of the terror experienced by the women of Afghanistan.
