Students Protest Jeb Bush's Anti-Affirmative Action Plan

One thousand students assembled in Florida's Capitol rotunda in protest of One Florida, Gov. Jeb Bush's plan to eliminate affirmative action for women and people of color in state universities and contracts.

Four student protesters from Florida A&M University met with Bush with a point-by-point analysis of the anti-affirmative action plan One Florida. The governor's staff was impressed that the students offered concrete suggestions to improve the plan.

Bush did agree to create a three-year plan to ensure that universities admit enough women and minorities, although he refused to back off his anti-affirmative action plan. The meeting was described as constructive by the students, who will soon meet with the governor's staff along with the state university chancellor.
