Women's Groups in Florida Blast Anti-Affirmative Action Plan

Women's groups in Florida spoke out on Wednesday against Gov. Jeb Bush's One Florida plan to eliminate affirmative action for women and people of color in state universities and contracts.

"From day one, the group hurt most by One Florida is women," said Democratic state Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz. Several female legislators and members of a dozen women's groups, including the National Organization for Women, gathered Wednesday to speak out against One Florida calling it "the most important battleground in deciding the future of affirmative action programs for women nationally."

Tallahassee is anticipating some 3,000 people to show for the third and final public hearing agreed to by Bush in response to the sit-in by two Florida lawmakers in January.
