Dole Uninformed on Abortion Law
The Washington Post reported today that Elizabeth Dole's position on abortion rights is still unclear.
A recent interview revealed that Dole was uninformed about current abortion law. While she has at many times stated that she's "for continuing the current situation," she has also contradicted herself by saying that she's "against federal funding for abortions." Current law allows federal funding for abortions in two instances -- when a pregnancy is caused by rape or incest, and when a pregnancy threatens a woman's life.
National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League President Kate Michelman commented, "It is disturbing that she doesn't know enough about the issue to know the current law...We expect more from a candidate, especially one who is appealing to women in this campaign."
