Enforcement of Meganís Law Resumed in New Jersey

New Jersey Attorney General Deborah Poritz wrote a letter to the stateís 21 prosecutors Friday (4-12) directing them to resume enforcement of Meganís Law. By the end of the month, prosecutors will begin notifying communities of the whereabouts of sex offenders. The law, adopted in 1994 after 7-year-old Megan Kanka was raped and murdered by a twice-convicted sex offender living in her neighborhood, was challenged last month by sex offender Alexander Artway. The 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled against the challenge but made no final decision about the constitutionality of the law
